About Michael Maury

Hi, I’m Michael Maury. I’m a self-taught oil painter, and my work is all about taking a closer look.

I love getting intimate with my subjects—zooming in so close that the rest of the world just quietens down. My absolute passions are florals and food, the simple things that feed our souls and connect us all.

Before finding my true voice in oils, I spent years experimenting with colored pencils and acrylics. I ultimately fell in love with oil painting because its rich depth lets me capture the exact tactile feeling of what I'm painting. When you look at my work, I don’t want you to just see a petal; I want you to feel its velvet texture. I don’t want you to just look at a dish; I want you to experience its warmth and sensory richness.

Growing up surrounded by the dramatic legacy of Italian art, I became fascinated by the play between bright light and deep shadow. In my paintings, light isn’t just a technical trick—it’s like a spotlight on a dark stage, cutting through moody backgrounds to show off the gorgeous, often overlooked details of a blooming flower or a quiet moment in the kitchen.

By focusing on these intense, beautiful close-ups, I love turning everyday moments into something extraordinary. My art is really just a warm invitation to slow down, take a breath, and appreciate the incredible beauty hidden in the simple things we love.
